DoorDash Product Manager Interview Questions
DoorDash's PM process runs a recruiter screen, a product-sense round, an analytical/execution round, and a behavioral round focused on bias for action and operational thinking.
What to Expect
| Round | Format | Focus | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recruiter screen | 20-30 min | Background, motivation, role scope | Low |
| Product sense round | 45 min | Design or improve a feature for one of DoorDash's three-sided marketplace users (consumers, Dashers, merchants) | High |
| Analytical/execution round | 45 min | Metrics tradeoffs, estimation, prioritization under operational constraints | High |
| Behavioral round | 30-45 min | Ownership, speed, cross-functional collaboration | Medium |
Prep time: 3-4 weeks — DoorDash's marketplace has three distinct user types, so practice product-sense answers that explicitly name which side of the marketplace you're optimizing for and the tradeoffs with the others.
Sample Questions and How to Approach Them
- "How would you improve Dasher retention in a specific city?" Clarify the underlying problem first (pay, wait times, order density), then propose 2-3 concrete levers and how you'd measure impact without hurting delivery times for consumers.
- "A marketing promotion increased order volume but decreased average order value. Is this good or bad?" Show you can reason about tradeoffs across metrics rather than treating one number in isolation — tie it back to overall unit economics.
- "How would you decide whether to prioritize consumer experience or merchant tooling this quarter?" Use a framework weighing business impact, urgency, and dependency across the three-sided marketplace.
- "Tell me about a time you had to move fast with incomplete data." Emphasize a concrete decision you made under uncertainty and how you validated it after the fact.
- "How would you measure the success of a new feature for merchants?" Name a primary metric (e.g., order acceptance rate or merchant retention) plus a guardrail metric to avoid unintended harm elsewhere in the marketplace.
- "Describe a time you disagreed with an engineering estimate for a project timeline." Show respectful pushback grounded in business urgency, and how you reached a resolution together.
